StorySlam Judge Katie Wisnosky is a truth-sayer, a soul-whisperer, a seeker. A word-crafter. A deep thinker, a dreamer, a wish-upon-a-star encourager. But above all this, she is an English teacher at Tunkhannock Area High School who believes that every student is capable of learning. Katie values effective written communication and is passionate about story. In addition to teaching American and World literature, she has acted as the advisor for the poetry club for the past four years. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. Katie also hosts monthly open mics for the under 21 crowd at the Tioga Bistro and Ebb’s Creative Landscaping (poetry under the stars!) in Tunkhannock. She recently organized and hosted the high school’s first spoken word poetry competition–The Breaking Ground–which drew 15 teenage participants who battled each other over the course of three rounds. On the average day, you can find her enjoying vegetarian meals, attending concerts, and traipsing in wild places. She also enjoys photography, yoga, kayaking, conversation and laughter. Katie currently lives in Tunkhannock with her husband and two daughters, Cali and Ava. Her motto for life: “Spit fire, Speak Truth”
